Copenhagen Harbour Race 2012

2012-10-15

Copenhagen Harbour Race – the last race of the season. A popular head race regatta only for team boats and the main class were Eights with cox. I got the opportunity to race with a good crew from Sweden: Victor Johansson, Nick Andersson, Carl Olsson, Anders Backeus, Phillipe Romé, Mathias Hurlimann, Stephan Coller and cox. The race attracted teams from Norway, Germany, Italy and of course Denmark. Our toughest opposition was the top Danish boat which included the Olympic Bronze Medal Mens Four from London.

Racing in an 8+ is very race for me. Usually I row sculling (two oars per rower), mostly in a single or a double. The Eight is very classical and it´s a very popular in University Rowing. The most famous university regatta "The Boat Race" between Oxford and Cambridge is for an example decided in the Mens 8+.

We got 2nd place after the well merited Danish Crew, which with the slim preparations (and tricky conditions) felt like a pretty solid performance. After the race there was a big party hosted by "Köbenhavns Roklub" and we celebrated the end of the 2012 season with great food and dancing.
